Lior and Robyn have both been added to The Hidden House of Ofelia and are available for purchase. These coffee illustrations are fun little pieces to work on when time is limited. Also I just setup a mailing list for the shop through the awesome service MailChimp (I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an easier way to setup and organize newsletters and general email marketing).

New mixed media drawings, all part of a small series based on Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). All three of these drawings are now available in my new Etsy shop The Hidden House of Ofelia.

I had do a name change with the shop do to a few issues I was running into with the Lost Butterflies name. Therefor the banner on this blog will be changing soon as well. However go ahead and stop on by, and favorite the shop too if you're an Etsy buyer or seller.

Old sketches and studies

I've been kind of at a stand still lately with paintings while I try to move, paint, and piece together a room that will be my new studio. I'm hoping I'll have everything mostly in place by next week so I can get back to work on some paintings and sculpture work for the animation. However during this process of moving all my supplies and whatnot I went through alot of my sketches and studies trying to organize them and toss out unnecessary things. Found quite a few pieces that I never started paintings on but would still like to finish sometime in the future. All of these are bit old, from 2006 and 2007.

New artwork and underwater photography

The other night I updated the website with all of my new pieces for the 10x10 show and am currently working on editing these time lapse videos. I wanted to have them all done by the end of the weekend but I ended up spending my weekend mostly trying to catch up on lost sleep. So hopefully at least one of the videos will be up on youtube before the end of the day.

I've had a few ideas floating around for awhile now for some underwater themed pieces, that I think I'm going to start working on soon. That is, after I finish up a couple paintings that I started but had to set aside to finish the 10x10 pieces. So anyway, yesterday I was looking around for some underwater photos to use as reference, when I stumbled across these gorgeous photos by Zena Holloway and Jolene Monheim

Snow and Torpedo Magazine

Lately and strangely enough the snow has been a big source of inspiration for me. Which is a bit odd because I usually don't care much for snow and cannot stand the slush that comes as a result of it. But for some reason this winter I'm really enjoying it and have been somewhat unintentionally working it into some of my recent paintings. Perhaps I'm just now stopping again to pay attention to the almost dreamy and other-worldly quality that snow has to, when it's completely covering everything and sparking in the sun. I'm still looking forward to spring though, the extremely cold weather is getting to me.

Speaking of recent paintings, I'm finishing up the paintings for the 10x10 show at Suite 100 Gallery. So far I'm pretty happy with how they are turning out. A couple of them are quite different from my other work as far as color schemes go. I've just been mixing and experimenting with some new colors and seeing how things turn out. Which probably isn't the best thing to do when your running so close to a deadline, but hey it's been fun and turning out pretty good I think. Here's a peek at the last piece I'm finishing up, this piece is actually somewhat of a remake of a piece I did a few years ago titled "Echo".

Last but not least a few days ago I received my copy of Torpedo magazine in the mail. I think I talked about this before but Torpedo is an illustrated fiction magazine out of Australia. I was contacted a few months ago to do a piece for their most recent issue, which is a tribute issues to author Richard  Brautigan. The book itself is filled with short stories and poems from over 30 writers and it also comes with a very nice little envelope containing 8 small full color prints of artwork by various artist, including my piece "The Insect Funeral".
For those interested in this, the magazine can be found in many book stores across Australia or purchased online for those of you living outside Australia.
